ABOUT DR. RIVERA
Linda Rivera, Psy.D. is a licensed Clinical Psychologist. She was educated and trained in the state of Hawaii. Due to the cultural diversity of Hawaii, her ethnic ancestry, along with her extensive travel throughout the world, she is sensitive to the needs of people of diverse backgrounds. And despite the diversity, Dr. Rivera realized that there is an amazing similarity. We all want to live a life that is happy, meaningful, and worthwhile.
Dr. Rivera obtained her Master’s Degree in Psychology in 1999 from Argosy University (formerly the American School of Professional Psychology/Hawaii Campus). Her Master’s Thesis entitled Cruelty to Animals Revisited was the culmination of a literature review in which she investigated the significance of cruelty to animals by children as a predictor of violence against humans later in life. Dr. Rivera went on to obtain her Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology in 2001 from Argosy University. In her Doctoral Clinical Research Project entitled Families That Care: A Qualitative Evaluation of Grief Intervention for Families with a Family Member who has a Severed Mental Illness, Dr. Rivera addressed the issues specific to families who have a family member with a severe mental illness such as Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder. In this formative and summative research project, Dr. Rivera developed and implemented the Families That Care multifamily group program. A zero attrition rate was one measure of the success of her program. Her contribution to the knowledge base of these families was shared in Honolulu when in 2000 she presented her findings at the American School of Professional Psychology/Hawaii Campus Student Research Symposium which was sponsored by the Hawaii Psychological Association.
Dr. Rivera incorporates in her work her many years of professional experience in a number of different organizations. These organizations include the Department of Health, Department of Education, Kapiolani Child Protection Center, Hawaii Counseling and Education Center, Inc., and Tripler Army Medical Center. Dr. Rivera is currently in private practice. Affiliations include professional membership in American Psychological Association (APA), Sandplay Therapists of America (STA) and the Association for Play Therapy (APT). Dr. Rivera is also a Board Member of the Hawaii Association for Play Therapy (HAPT).
Mission: To provide services in a competent and professional manner
Vision: To help people reconnect to their natural ability to heal and grow
"As we encounter difficulties in life, our natural ability to be healthy in mind, body, and spirit becomes blocked. Reconnecting to the inner health and well-being that is inside us all enables us to live lives that are more happy and productive."
